European Commission Funded Project ‘Stellar’ Invites People to Join Industry Stakeholder Group

Stellar, a European Commission funded project coordinated by NetComposites, is inviting people to join its Industry Stakeholder Group; a group which will be given first-hand project updates intended to create the opportunity to better understand the project, its development and potential outputs.

Stellar is a nine partner project with organisations from six European countries. Led by NetComposites, the project also includes: Toyota Motor Europe, Airborne, HBW-Gubesch Thermoforming, AFPT, CGTech, ESI, The Montanuniversität Leoben, Fraunhofer IPT.

The concept of the Stellar project is to develop the design methodologies, manufacturing processes, equipment and control systems needed for localised placement of different fibre-reinforced thermoplastic composite tapes onto a range of substrates, creating locally reinforced components that are fully weight-optimised.

The manufacturing process developed will have a significant effect on the weight of structures, as for the first time, it will allow different reinforcement fibres (polymer, glass, carbon) to be used co-efficiently in the same thermoplastic polymer matrix, to produce hybrid multi-material structural components.

It is expected that companies operating within the aerospace or automotive industries would have an interest in joining the Stakeholder Group. In return, they will join a forum for two-way discussion and will receive advance information about the new technologies and the ability to steer the project outcomes.
